Heffalump for Neelesh

Things have been hectic

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Ever since the Official Move, it seems like Rob and I haven’t had a moment to just sit down and relax, and that’s probably pretty valid.  I think this past Tuesday night was the first time we were home early enough to do anything other than shower and go to bed.  To celebrate, we popped open the good bottle of wine and lit a fire in the fireplace.  I took video of the first fire.  :P

We’re slowly but steadily getting things we need.  First and most importantly was getting the appliances, fridge, stove, range hood, and dishwasher.  Once that was out of the way, we were able to get some other stuff we needed, like matching plates, silverware, curtain rods and curtains (so important), and wood for the fireplace.  I had some gift cards from being employee of the month in November, and they came in handy getting the curtain rods and fireplace tools.  Then we got chairs, some light fixtures, and a table.  There’s still so much to do.

The kitchen is mostly done, I think that I just need to get a kitchen cart for extra storage and counter space.  I have one picked out, I just have to go look at it in person and make sure that it’s not a piece of crap.  But pretty much every other room needs lots.  And the living room can’t even get started until we finish the lower level and get everything that’s supposed to be down there out of the living room.  Needless to say, we’ve been busy, and I haven’t had any time to knit or socialize really.

But that’s ok, Wyn’s coming over on Saturday to come with us to see Cloverfield, and we’re spending the day playing with yarn and watching Disney movies.  :]  Oh, that is, after my dentist’s appointment.  Somehow, I managed to chip almost an entire side off of one of my back teeth that has a filling in it.

Work has been. . .interesting.  They’ve got me doing work that’s incredibly boring, but also letting me tinker with something a little bit fun.   I got my first paycheck after my raise and I was pleasantly surprised.  Usually I’m disappointed.  My car hasn’t sold yet, which is kind of annoying, it’s much needed money to help with the house.  My Audi has been awesome, and I’m so glad I got it.

My address is officially changed, and I got my new driver’s license, so I’m hoping to go to the library sometime soon and get a new library card.  I can’t wait to check it out.  (No pun intended, but now I feel like I should have been on Reading Rainbow.)

Sunday I think I’m going to try and enjoy the house.  I need to go grocery shopping soon.   On a trip to Target recently (don’t ask me about my curtains.  It took WAY too much effort to get a complete set for the bedroom.), I bought some of these cool food storage containers.  I thought they were Snapware, but I don’t see them on their site.  They’re color coded so that you can easily match top to base, and they have snapping locks on all 4 sides, and they have a little tab on the top of the lid that you pop open to put the whole thing in the microwave.  They’re the perfect size for bento boxes.  Now I need to go food shopping so I can start making cute and delicious bento lunches for Rob and myself.

I still kind of can’t believe we’re here, in the house.  Wyn will be the first person from my family to see it.  Even though I live closer to my mom than I did before.  She’s been kind of weird ever since we moved in, which I was kind of expecting.

I hope to get a lot and maybe even finish my Forecast sweater this weekend.  Or at the very least the Heffalump.  I’m getting an itch to start a pair of socks.  :P

New House, unf.

Monday, January 7th, 2008

We’ve moved.  Been sleeping in the new house since Saturday.  It’s awesome.  We need SOOOOOOOOOOOO much stuff.  Today we put in our mailbox.  It’s cute.  The kitchen is mostly set up, but I still need to buy a table.  The living room is kind of awry, we’ve got our computers up here until the lower level gets finished.

It’s so nice and quiet.  The town is much more rural than our last.  It’s nice to not have to deal with crazy traffic and people crossing main roads anywhere they like.  While I was outside today helping Rob with the mailbox, I noticed deer tracks in our dirt.  (We don’t really have any grass yet. . .waiting for spring.)

I can’t wait until the majority of our necessity purchasing is done, and we can start setting everything in it’s mostly-permanent place.  When we can start making this huge house a home.

We were lucky, the weather was really nice for the move.  And something absolutely bizarre happened.  There was this one house at the end of our new block that wasn’t like the others.  The house looked completely run down and white trash.  The other houses on our block are all well kept and cared for, and this house looked like it was just built years ago, and neglected for all that time.  There were kids toys strewn all across their lawn,  only held in from the street by a run down, rusty chain link fence.  The back porch was lit by a failing florescent light, and was piled with empty beer bottles and boxes.  We were worried that one house would lower our property value.

On Saturday, when we finally made it out here with the truck full of our heaviest possessions, we had to detour on side roads to get to our block because there had been a house fire.  THE white trash house had burned out completely on the day of our move.  And despite it’s close proximity to it’s neighbors houses, only the white trash house was affected.

I feel compelled to put up the evil eye that was given to me for a secret santa present.  Any good mojo helps.  :]

Happy New Year

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Well 2007 certainly went out on a high note.  Rob closed on the house on Monday, and things have been pretty crazy around here.  We’ve been to the house every day this week so far, and we’re moving in on Saturday.  Going to have to try and pack before then.  I haven’t gotten ANY knitting done.  All of my projects for a while will have to be from my stash, because I’m not going to have any money, lol.

We bought appliances today.  Our kitchen is going to be awesome.  Then we can start cooking again.  I miss having good food.  And eventually I can start packing lunch boxes.  Right now it seems like everything is “eventually”.  There’s still so much to do.
