Let’s play which is worse?
Saturday, October 8th, 2005C’mon, you know what I’m talking about. You may have been 7, 10, or 16, but at some point in all of our childhoods (and some of us, at some point in our adulthoods), we’ve all played which is worse.
“Ok, which is worse, french kissing a monkey in front of your whole school, or having your pants pulled down in front of the whole gym class?”
“Which is worse, getting back together with my ex boyfriend/girlfriend, or moving back in with my mother?”
“Which is worse, having your boss hear you say that he’s a balding version of Rick Moranis, or telling your wife/husband that you’ve had better?”
My which is worse, is job related. Since I’m trying to learn stuff, I’ve managed to find a position at my less-then-meritable job where I can at least try to learn some web stuff, with the help of someone who’s actually doing this stuff every day. Well, actually, I’ve done this twice at the same place. Right now I’m working with a guy who has no idea how to have someone work under him, and most of the time, when he’s not “innocently” insulting me by telling me that I know absolutely nothing, he tends to not give me anything to do that I can learn from. A lot of the time, he just doesn’t give me anything to do.
So I spoke with one of my “supervisors” and she said that she’d see what she could do about it. But no changes came. Her husband also works at the company, and he happened to see the site I made for my dolls, and he offered me a chance to work with him, developing and ultimately being in charge of the new store front that my company will eventually bring live. Rockin, I think, I’m actually going to get the chance to work and learn something I can use!
Except the guy who’s supposed to be taking me under his wing (he was talking about teaching me all sorts of things, from java script, to css, to whatever else he thought I may need.), has been really busy, and hasn’t had the time to actually work with me. So, although we got the approval from the big big boss man for me to work with the web guy, I’m still working with the guy who usually gives me nothing. *sigh*
And, my supervisor kind of tipped this guy off that they might move me to a different department if he has nothing for me to do, so he’s been giving me bs busy work for the past couple of weeks. Like, giving me 300 html files, and telling me to find and replace php code, or to remove everything that wasn’t just plain html. And I do admit, he actually does need these things done, but there are simple scripts that can be used to do this, but he needs to make me look busy, or he can’t keep me for his ego.
Anyway. Back to my original subject. My which is worse is this:
Which is worse, staying at a job that has jerked you around from the start because they promised you a higher paying position that would teach you things you need to know for other facets in your life, even if it seems like they may never move you over, or finding another job that will most likely have little or nothing to do with the internet, but that pays more money, and learn all the stuff you’re trying to learn on your own?
